Restoring the Heart of Bangkok's Waterways: Poomjai Garden's Initiative for Sustainable Canal Clean-Up

Poomjai Garden is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability and community revitalization. We recently signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Luxembourg Embassy and Wawa Creations to kickstart a solar-powered canal clean-up project. This initiative aims to restore the beauty and utility of the Bangkhunthian Canal and its neighboring waterways.

Background: The Importance of Bangkhunthian Canal

Bangkhunthian Canal, where Poomjai Garden is located, was once the heart of local transportation and commerce. These Thonburi waterways were bustling with life, serving as vital arteries for trade and daily commutes. However, with the advent of modern roadways, the significance of these canals diminished. Over time, neglect led to pollution, transforming these once-pristine waterways into repositories of filth and trash.

The Signing Ceremony

On a momentous day, Poomjai Garden had the honor of welcoming H.E. Mr. Patrick Hemmer, the Ambassador of Luxembourg to Thailand, to our garden. Alongside representatives from Wawa Creations, we formalized our commitment to environmental sustainability by signing an MOU. This agreement marks the beginning of a collaborative effort to rejuvenate Bangkhunthian Canal using a solar-powered trash skimming boat.

Objectives of the Canal Clean-Up Project

The primary objectives of this project are:

  • To clean and restore the Bangkhunthian Canal and nearby waterways.

  • To set a precedent for sustainable environmental practices.

  • To engage the local community in conservation efforts.

  • To promote awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources.

Collaboration and Community Involvement

This MOU and the ensuing project would not have been possible without the guidance and support of Khun Pornphrom Vikitsreth , advisor to the Governor of Bangkok. His introduction to this impactful environmental initiative has been invaluable. We are committed to working closely with local stakeholders, including boat operators, community leaders, and residents, to ensure the success and sustainability of this project.

Future Prospects and Call to Action

As we embark on this journey, we envision a future where Bangkhunthian Canal and its neighboring waterways are restored to their former glory, serving as vibrant, clean, and sustainable lifelines for the community. We hope to inspire other stakeholders to join us in this movement, creating a ripple effect of positive environmental impact.

We invite everyone to support and participate in our initiatives. Together, we can create a lasting impact, ensuring that future generations can enjoy and benefit from these precious natural resources.
